These days journalism isn’t what it used to be. In fact, a little known secret is that much of what you see on the local news is not strictly “news” at all. Rather, stations often use canned video clips provided to them by corporations who wish to plug their products or otherwise influence public opinion. News organizations even modify these so-called Video News Releases (VNR’s) by adding their own banners and logos, making it appear as if they filmed the footage in the first place. Sadly, this deceptive practice is still completely legal.
