I wanted to write about financing a rap album. Traditionally, artists have gone through labels to acquire funding necessary to create and produce a major release. However, the current industry is offering artists alternatives to labels. This financial plan, available for download, allows artists to receive financial backing through private investment. The entity provides funds in exchange for something of value, typically equity in the company or points on an album. In exchange for this “value,” artists receive funds from an investor to record, press, market, and promote their album. This is a contractual obligation, and does contain guidelines, restrictions, and safeguards to protect the investor.
