Great question. Imagine having stored 4000 gallons of gas, or ten years worth of fuel, back in 1998 when gas was going for .97/gallon. You wouldn’t have any more garage space, but you would have saved a ton of cash on gas especially right now with the national average at $4.00. Southwest Airlines, currently the most profitable airline in America, owes its success to doing just that. Instead of filling up the garage though, they opted for a more educated approach, a hedge. A hedge is a financial instrument that reduces risk. A hedge, in this sense, is NOT a bush, shrub, tree, or anything tangible for that matter.
The problem that Southwest Airlines is facing now is wether or not they should continue hedging. While this strategy has worked in their favor for over a decade, there comes a point in every hedge when the odds are on the house. With […]

No Comments » I foresee that this month is going to be a busy month for me. More writing to be done, more blogging coz I created more blogs! As for last month, praise God that I still got my one month salary (no more, no less) if I were still be working in the office. The best th

A key to achieving your financial goals lies in knowing what financial instruments to invest in for a given financial goal. For example: if your goal is to eliminate your car loan within the next twelve-month window, it’s financial suicide to start investing your loan repayment money in equity instruments (stocks, equity-oriented mutual funds, etc.). Similarly, if your goal is to retire within the next ten years, it makes no sense to start hoarding cash in a low-yield savings account. But th

Is John McCain losing it? On Sunday, he said on national television that to solve Social Security “everything’s on the table,” which of course means raising payroll taxes. On July 7 he said: “Senator Obama will raise your taxes. I won’t.” This isn’t a flip-flop. It’s a sex-change operation. Sen. McCain is a famously undisciplined politician.

Financing the Village of Midlothian is a complex undertaking. Chief sources of revenue are miscellaneous receipts, Municipal Retailers Taxes, Motor Fuel Taxes and Real Estate Taxes. To recommend ways and means for these to meet the growing expenses of our village and to keep strict accounting of all funds in the job of the Finance Committee.
I should like to emphasize two things: (1) the village is at the present time, operating on a strict cash basis. All bills are paid as soon as they are due; all interest payments on bond issues are paid when due; all bonds have been retired on schedule; (2) the Municipal Retailers Sales Taxhas been of great assistance to this village – as it has to others – in meeting the ever enlarging costs of municipal government.
To make the income and outgoing of funds used for financing the government of […]
